Practice Chanter
Lessons start Sep. 9 '24. Mondays, 600-700PM. Lessons are free.
There is no band membership fee.We are hoping to add members to the playing
band (for survival!)
During the year lessons are always cancelled on Monday holidays
If you can't attend, please let your instructor know in advance.
For now, I'm it for piping: chris.meek@usask.ca
You need to bring a practice chanter & reed. Wooden (cheap, Amazon, approx $20)
or "plastic"(maybe approx. $100). There are good and bad in both varieties. Usually
the top of a wooden one will crack after a while- fixed by taping.
Music (tunes) are always provided by the band - but there are also a lot
of pipe tune books available online - or free printable music from multiple
band websites.
Usually people park in the Armories lot ... there are a few visitors' spots.
Across Idylwilde on a side street also works - don't use the big Harry Baily
lot just North of the Armories - people have gotten tickets there before.
There is a lot of solo and band music online - listen to the best as often
as possible (you will know the best when you hear it). Once your basics
are solid, an hour of concentrated listening is often worth as much or more
than an hour lesson - and if you hear a tune you really want to learn,
that's pure gold!
